What Is a Tree Protector?
The first few years of a trees' life are the trickiest. Newly planted trees are vulnerable to weather, pests, animal and chemical spray damage. To help ensure a successful outcome, orchard growers rely on Pacific Western’s Tree Protectors plus Tree and Vine Protectors help accelerate plant growth and enhance survival.
Before the Tree Protector was invented, orchard growers would protect young trees by wrapping the trunks with newspaper and securing it with twine. Unfortunately, newspaper could not withstand weather or watering for a prolonged period. In the 1950s Floyd Blower, a grower and paper packaging/manufacturing business owner, developed an innovative solution-a Lock-On protector for his trees. Blower began the manufacturing process and has since sold millions.
P.W.A.’s line of tree protectors follow Floyd Blower’s tradition, designs have been refined and improved over the years, but one thing has not changed: tree protectors are a must for all newly planted orchards.
Tree protectors create an individual greenhouse-like effect for a tree. Maintains even moisture to encourage faster, healthier growth. Protects against natural (there is a word here but I can’t read it), predators adn herbicide spraying.
Pacific Western's Tree and Vine Protectors Come in three styles: Lock-on, Drop-on, and Staple-on, with each style coming in several sizes to meet your specific needs. Lock-on and Staple-on can be used when trees are in full branch stage. Our Drop-on model is specifically designed for quick and easy field installation on trees in the whip (no branch) stage. They are heat sealed so that growers can simply drop on to new trees.
All Pacific Western Tree and Vine protectors are made from coated bleached board material that is 96% biodegradable, making them ideal for extreme environmental conditions. Tree and vine protectors will last approximately 12 to 18 months, depending on field and weather conditions.
