What Is a Vine Protector?
In 1995 a grower from Lockeford, CA came to Pacific Western and asked if we could make a tree protector into a vine protector. Growers had tried using milk cartons, and while the idea was good, the size was not. To be effective, vine protectors must be much taller, with punched holes so that they can be tied to cordon wire, and two slits in which bamboo or a metal rod can be inserted.
Pacific Western vine protectors meet all of our grower's needs, and, measuring 3 3/4" x 3 3/4" x 20 they are the perfect size. In fact, in all of our years of field-testing, our vine protectors have typically outperformed traditional milk cartons.
The advantage of vine protecors are numerous. They accelerate growth and enhance vine survival by protecting them from wind damage, animal destruction, and chemical sprays until the vines are safely established. Additionally, they keep water in while keeping hericides out. And, because plants can grow taller before tying is needed, labor costs are dramatically reduced, especially for commercial nurseries and grape growers.
Pacific Western vine protectors come in two styles: Square Drop-on, and Tri-Tube Drop-on with each available in several sizes.
Material: All Pacific Western Tree and Vine protectors are made from coated bleached board material that is 96% biodegradable, making them ideal for extreme environmental conditions. Tree and vine protectors will last approximately 12 to 18 months, depending on field and weather conditions.
